“The Painted Veil”

Walter tells Kitty that he knows about her betrayal and suggests that they go to Mei-tan-fu, a place where struck an epidemic of cholera. Kitty is desperate and asks him to let her divorce him and be happy with another man. He agrees on condition that Charlie Townsend will marry her within a week. The conversation is unpleasant and Kitty and Charlie tell each other all the offending things they can. They give way to all that they had been hiding deep inside. Kitty tells him she is madly in love with Charlie and dreams of being with him. Walter calls Kitty second-rate and commonplace.
